FEP film, what is it and where can you buy it?

FEP film, is available as very thin FEP film of 25 micron up to a thick material of 1.5 mm.

The thinnest FEP film you can buy is only 25 microns thick! Micron is also indicated with the letters “mu” or “μm”. A micron is a micrometer and therefore 1000 times as thin as a millimeter.

What is FEP film

FEP stands for fluorinated ethylene propylene polymer and is better known as Teflon. Teflon is a brand name that is popularly known.

You may also know PTFE and PFA by name. These were used among other things in the manufacture of frying pans. It acted as a non-stick coating. FEP is a lot cheaper than making PFA and is not influenced by ultraviolet light (UV light). In addition, it transmits more than 97% more light and is very suitable for UV applications.

The unique properties of FEP film is that it has a very wide temperature range from -200 to +200 degrees Celsius. It resists almost all chemicals including strong acids, salts and organic solvents. It has sublime non-stick properties and offers resistance to weathering. It is not flammable, so it does not burn with gas or air with an oxygen concentration of less than 95 percent. Thanks to the high transparency, it allows excellent UV and other visible radiation to pass through. All this ensures that FEP film can be used for a wide range of purposes.
